I FEEL SO RIPPED OFF!!! No more shopping for me in SG!!
I was at Vivo with Shuwen the other day and I bought a top at Valerie. Quite a popular store there and guess what? I found the exact same top at a taiwan website selling for only NT$250 (approx S$12). I paid a freaking S$40 for it at Valerie. #&^@!#^!!
I've been tolerating the increasing prices of things in SG and today is the breaking point! No more shopping in SG coz things are not only getting more and more expensive, the things u bought might be offered a lot cheaper somewhere else. This does not only apply to "label-less" stuffs. Certain labels are cheaper on the net (from US) than in their brick and mortar after sharing shipping with ur friends.
Singapore isn't really the best place for shopping deals, at least not for me. Not my paradise! The great singapore sale looks disappointing. No good deals.. mostly stuffs from previous seasons.. sigh.. By far my best experience is Bangkok and its wholesale center Pratunam. Prices are crazy over there and you might find what u usually pay for $30 in SG for to be only $5! Stuffs are equally crazy for guys there too! My bf bagged several sets of quality shirts for only a fraction of the price in SG.
The magazines don't provide any relief to the situation nowadays. I used to flip thru Cleo or Her World or Female to find deals around the island - things that are affordable to normal folks like us. Try flipping thru them now and u might only find them celebrating designer labels with sky-high prices. Have the poverty gap gotten bigger? Are normal folks really affording $300 heels or $8000 designer jewellery? Perhaps its all the advertising fees that the labels are paying them. For one, I've stopped reading them.
I've tried most mags available and only found Seventeen to some extend, relevant. But certain stuff still seemed pretty kiddy in there considering that I'm 22 and I can't really dress like a 16 yr old anymore. When you are 22 and still studying, its pretty much a torture being unable to wear things u can afford and unable to afford things you want to wear.
The only relief is online shopping I guess. No taxes, profiting middlemen etc. I don't really need to go walking around the whole mall to find stuffs. I just click, and in the middle of the night I can still browse and shop. And best of all, stuffs are cheap. Dirt cheap. You won't even mind if u didn't like the design that much later or it doesn't fit that well. At least your pocket is still smiling and so are you.
